When they were granting cable television franchises, the State of Connecticut set aside Educational Access Channels in each area. This gave schools and towns the opportunity to broadcast programs that would train students in videography and educate the public. Trumbull’s TEC is provided exclusively by Charter Communications. In 1996, the first television program was inaugurated under the direction of Dr. Edwin T. Merritt, then Superintendent of Schools. This first program was called “Family University of Trumbull” and it is still on the air today, ten years later.
In 2001 Trumbull Public Schools began using TEC to show some student-produced videotaped programs. Then in 2003, the Town of Trumbull Cable Advisory Committee was formed with its mission to “ensure that the residents of Trumbull have excellent cable television” through “the creation, airing, and viewing of community access programming that presents news and information specific to the community.”
